New Smartphone Series From Xiaomi?

Xiaomi will have a ‘Global Launch‘ event on Tuesday at New Delhi, and the device being launched will be a ‘Flagship with Dual Cameras‘. This made way for the probable launch of the Mi 5X. But their new teaser says, ‘Introducing a New Series by Xiaomi’, which changes the story completely. The Tuesday launch may see a new crop of Redmi series smartphones in the country.

Xiaomi-Google Collaboration

Xiaomi has been working on a project with Google to develop an Android One smartphone. The device was in the phase of development, and reportedly will be called Xiaomi A1. The device is heavily inspired by the company’s present midrange flagship Mi 5X, which is also a dual camera smartphone. This fits in well with the teasers so far. A more recent report suggests that the smartphone will be called the Xiaomi Mi A1.

Android One Initiative By Google

The Android One initiative by Google aims to provide more affordable, certified and exclusive stock Android smartphones to the users in emerging markets. Under this initiative Google promises to offer a smooth performance with quick updates.

Xiaomi Mi 5X Vs Xiaomi A1

Both the devices are technically same, and the only difference between the Mi 5X and Xiaomi A1 will be the Stock Android. Mi 5X will carry Xiaomi’s own MIUI, but Xiaomi A1 will have Stock Android in place of MIUI. Xiaomi A1 is said to be a similar version of the Mi 5X carrying the same set of specs, including the dual camera.

Google’s First Attempt Failed

Google launched their Android One project a few years back, keeping India’s emerging market in mind. Google first went into a partnership with some of the local vendors like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice to release the Android One powered smartphones, but the project with the local makers went nowhere. Now that Google is looking to collaborate with Xiaomi for their Android One device, seeing how Xiaomi has grown in the Indian market in last three years.

Affordable Xiaomi Flagship Device Incoming

If it’s an Android One project, the device will be an affordable one. The dual camera mid range flagship device with Stock Android on top, it might come with a price tag under Rs. 15,000/-. It does have an impressive future looking at the Indian market, and Xiaomi has already become a trusted brand in the country.

Expectations

It is still not sure whether Xiaomi will be launching the Xiaomi Mi A1 powered by Android One or is it going to be some other new series of smartphones or the Xiaomi Mi 5X, on September 5. Xiaomi is being quite mysterious.
As of now, only the dual camera setup is confirmed.

Tuesday is not that far away. But, it is going to be a long wait.
