Airtel Increases Minimum Monthly Plan Tariff By 57%; Pay Rs 155 For Airtel’s Minimum 28-Days Plan

As expected, Airtel has triggered a new wave of price hikes in the telecom industry, and it’s expected that soon, others will follow suit.

With this new round of price hikes, telecom companies like Airtel can expect much better ARPU or Average Revenue Per User, but it will burn a hole in the consumer’s pocket.

Airtel’s Minimum Monthly Plan Hike By 57%

As per incoming reports, Airtel’s minimum monthly charges have been increased by 57% to reach Rs 155. 

This means, that Airtel customers will now need to pay a minimum of Rs 155/month for getting data and voice services.

This new tariff has been deployed across Odisha and Harayana as of now but is expected to be rolled out across India, very soon.

Earlier, this minimum monthly plan was costing Rs 99.

In a brokerage note, ICICI Securities said, “The earlier Rs 99 recharge had Rs 99 talk-time value and very limited data of 200 MB valid for 28 days. In contrast, the now-adopted Rs 155 minimum recharge gives unlimited voice, 1GB data allowance and 300 SMSes. This is a massive 57 per cent surge in minimum recharge value, and has been done in the customer segment where affordability matters the most,”

All Under-Rs 100 Plans Will Be Stopped?

If we believe the findings of the report, Airtel will soon abolish all under-Rs 100 plans for 28 days validity, to make sure that the average user spends atleast Rs 100 or above for using Airtel.

In 2021, Airtel had suddenly increased the price of Rs 79 plan to Rs 99, which has now become Rs 155 minimum for 28 days.

The report said, “Bharti has taken the industry’s first step in implementing a tariff hike in the current market situation. We expect it to now wait for a competitive reaction. If it does not find enough support, then Bharti may be required to restore the Rs 99 pack. It would then be difficult to imagine who would take the next step for a tariff hike — and would Bharti support it? Or has Bharti ‘made an offer its competitors cannot refuse?’ In our view, yes it has,”

Now, all eyes are set on Jio and Vi to announce the price hike, and ensure more profitability.
