Adani Group Gets License To Start Telecom Services: Will Airtel, Reliance Jio Lose Market Share?

At the recent 5G spectrum auction, the telecom unit of the flagship company Adani Enterprises, Adani Data Networks acquired the right to use 400MHz of spectrum in the 26GHz millimetre wave band, amounting to Rs 212 crore for 20 years, cited reports.

Now, the telecom company has been awarded the unified license by the DoT to provide a complete wide range of telecom services across the country. Sources privy to the matter have informed that the Adani Group company had received the UL by the governing body early last week.

Another source has informed that Adani Data Networks has been granted the unified license by the DoT for only six circles as of now. They include:

  • Mumbai,
  • Gujarat,
  • Karnataka,
  • Andhra Pradesh,
  • Rajasthan,
  • Tamil Nadu.

With this license granted, Adani Data Networks will be eligible to proceed with long-distance calls on its network and offer internet data services.

“We are participating in the 5G spectrum auction to provide private network solutions along with enhanced cyber security in the airport, ports & logistics, power generation, transmission, distribution, and various manufacturing operations,” it said.

Through the unified license granted, the Adanic Group company’s data centre business will be provided aid as data needs to be transferred within the country as well as outside.

Through this long-distance license, another (a new) revenue stream will open up for the multinational conglomerate giant, given its ability to carry not just data but also voice traffic for telecom companies and other enterprises.

“The newly-acquired 5G spectrum is expected to help create a unified digital platform that will accelerate the pace and scale of the Adani group’s digitisation of its core infrastructure, primary industry and B2C business portfolio,” the company had said in an earlier statement.
