Ahead of the upcoming festive season, with Ganesh Chaturthi almost around the corner, the Maharashtra government has raised the existing dearness allowance payable to state govt employees by 3%, taking the figure from 31 to 34%.

The decision was made during a cabinet meeting on August 16, presided by CM Eknath Shinde, and the increased amount shall be brought under effect starting August itself. This means the 3% hike will be paid to all govt employees across the state in cash from Aug 2022.

The 3% DA hike will benefit almost 17 lakh state government employees, which also include pensioners.

Other States Raising DA Ahead of Festive Season

Shinde’s govt was not the only one announcing a hike in dearness allowance to state employees.

In fact, the Maharashtra government’s DA hike announcement came shortly after the Gujarat and Chhattisgarh governments announced an upto 6% hike to their state govt employees.

On Aug 1, the government of Madhya Pradesh announced a hike in the Dearness Allowance (DA) of the state govt employees to 34%, at par with the Central government’s figure, providing benefits to over 7.5 lakh employees.

It will cost the state government an additional burden of Rs 625 crore, stated the chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The Tripura government’s proposal of raising DA by 5% for state government employees and retirees will come under effect starting July 1, 2022, as approved by the state’s CM Manik Saha’s cabinet.

The Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has announced a 3% hike in DA to state government employees under the 7th Pay Commission, benefitting almost 9.38 lakh beneficiaries. The hike will come into effect from Jan 1, 2022.

However, doing so shall put a financial burden of almost Rs 1,400 crore on the state govt.

Similarly, the Chhattisgarh government has also announced a 6% hike to 28% in the DA provided to the state’s govt employees.
