Recently, there was news of the Govt considering to ban Chinese smartphones under Rs 12,000 from being sold in the Indian cellphone markets.

It was said that the Govt was considering such a move in order to boost the sales of Indian manufactured smartphones under Rs 12,000 in the domestic market.

Some Indian smartphone makers include Micromax, Karbonn and Lava.

However, the news has been done away and now there are reports that the move is easier said than done.

Why is It Easier Said Than Done?

The thought behind banning Chinese phones under Rs 12,000 from the Indian markets to promote the sale of domestic smartphones is an ambitious thought, however, not so practical or easy.

This is because about 78% of all the smartphones sold in India under Rs 12,000 are manufactured by Chinese companies.

Reports state that three out of every 10 smartphones sold in India are under Rs 12,000. If you do the numbers, Chinese smartphone companies have a strong prevalence and dominance in the Indian markets.

Only 20% market share in the Indian smartphone space is occupied by the US luxury brand Apple and the South Korean brand Samsung.
