There is good news for all the government employees. The Finance and Personnel Department has given its approval on the proposal of increasing the age limit of employees from 65 years to 67 years.

Increase in Retirement due to Acute Shortage

The proposal of the Health Department has been approved by the Finance and Personnel Department in the light of acute shortage of government doctors in the state, and hence increased the same to 67 years.

This proposal will be sent to the Chief Minister, post whose approval the retirement age of non-academic cadre doctors will be increased from 65 years to 67 years.

Since 3 years, these discussions have been carried out. A proposal to increase the age limit of non-educational doctors of the state was prepared in the year 2019. After the preparation of this proposal, the consent of the departmental minister Ramchandra Chandravanshi was taken.

This file was then sent to the Finance Department post that and since it has been hanging in the balance due to various reasons.

Service Extension Not for the First Time

Previously when the retirement age of doctors was 60 years, it was increased to 62 years. After that it was again increased by 3 years and made 65 years.

Now the talks of extending it by 2 years are doing the rounds. However a medical fitness certificate will have to be provided by the doctors to render the service.

About 150 doctors in the state will retire if the retirement age of doctors is not extended for the next 2 years. 

Not just that, but measures to appoint new doctors is also in talks and a letter shall soon be sent to JPSC for appointment to 234 posts of Medical Officers. This will include 934 posts of specialist doctors.
