From Monday, July 18, the prices of several essential commodities and services are going to increase as the the GST Council has introduced changes in tax rates of some daily consumer goods.

Agri and dairy

Pre-packed, labelled food items like atta, paneer and curd now attract 5 per cent GST.

Any agri and dairy products, if sold loose or packed in front of the customers, will continue to be exempt from GST.

Rice

All unbranded, pre-packaged rice/ rice flour/ wheat flour will attract GST.

Earlier, only branded packaged rice was taxed.

  • Rice, Wheat, Rye, Barley, Oats (5 per cent GST)
  • Rice Flour (5 per cent  GST)
  • Rice, Wheat, Rye, Barley, Oats (5 per cent GST)
  • Wheat & Meslin Flour (5 per cent GST)

Sugar

  • Jaggery of all types including Cane Jaggery (gur), Palmyra Jaggery (5 per cent GST)
  • Khandsari Sugar (5 per cent GST)
  • Natural Honey (5 per cent GST)

Stationary, cutlery, other appliances

LED lamps; ink, knives, blades, pencil sharpener, blades, spoons, forks, ladles, skimmers, skimmers, cake servers; printing, writing and drawing ink; fixture and their metal printed circuits board now attract 18 per cent tax.

Machinery

  • Power-driven pumps, bicycle pumps, dairy machinery by 18 per cent.
  • Machines used for cleaning, sorting, grading seeds, and grain pulses; machines used in milling/cereals industry; air-based atta chakki and wet grinder by 18 per cent.

Hotel, hospital rooms

The 5 per cent hike is imposed on hospital rooms with rent above Rs 5,000.

Non-ICU hospital rooms exceeding Rs 5,000/day will be levied 5 per cent GST.

Hotel rooms with tariffs of up to Rs 1,000/day will attract a 12 per cent GST.

Public services 

Works contracts for roads, bridges, railways, metro, effluent treatment plant, crematorium and others will now be taxed 18 per cent from the current 12 per cent.

Work contract for historical monuments, canals, dams, pipelines, plants for water supply, educational institutions, hospitals etc supplied to central, state governments and local authorities and sub-contractor are now taxed 18 per cent.
