“Compact SUV” is the segment that is the “zeitgeist” as it has emerged as the popular segment in India. Much of its popularity can be attributed to the fact that it has been able to strike the right balance between size and price.
All every manufacturer has at least one model in this super-hot segment!
This segment shall get more action with the recently launched Toyota HyRyder and the upcoming launch of Maruti Suzuki Vitara.
June 2022 Sale : Compact SUV
Topping the chart is none other than Hyundai Creta. In the month of June 2022, it commanded a 41.61% market share and the same was 39.18% previous month.
Registering 38.72% growth YoY and 25.67% growth MoM, the most sought-after SUV of the lot has sold 13,790 units in June 2022. It is the only SUV which has seen a growth in YoY as well as MoM charts.
With a sales of 8,388 units in June 2022, second to Creta is Kia Seltos which registered a 1.88% dip in sales YoY and a growth of 40.90% MoM. Its market share has increased from 21.25% in May 2022 to 25.31% in June 2022.
Together, Creta and Seltos had a market share of 66.92% last month which implies that every 2 of 3 compact SUVs sold are either of them.
Selling 4,131 units in June 202, Mahindra Scorpio is next in the list. Notably, this sales number came even after the fact that the launch of Mahindra Scorpio-N was right around the corner. It is the same reason why the carmaker intends to keep the old Scorpio as Scorpio Classic. The market share of the car has dipped from 15.52% in May 2022 to 12.47% in June 2022. It has registered a dip of 4.99% in MoM sales whereas a dip of 0.7% in YoY.
June 2022 Sale : Kushaq, Taigun, Astor
Despite the small niggles, Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun have had a good run in India and perform relatively well in compact SUV sales figures.
In June 2022, Kushaq sold 2,983 units and registered a 65.17% growth MoM whereas Taigun sold only 1,327 units and registered only 4.65% growth MoM.
Selling 1,640 units in June 2022, MG Astor registered an 18.89% dip in sales MoM. In the month of May 2022, the market share of MG Astor was 7.22% which dropped to 4.95% in June 2022.
With a 51.63% dip in sales YoY and a 51.19% dip in sales MoM in the month of June 2022,
Maruti Suzuki S-Cross sold only 697 units in June 2022 with a 51.63% dip in sales YoY and a 51.19% dip in sales MoM in the month of June 2022. Currently, it only has a 2.10% market share in June 2022 which used to be 5.10% in May 2022.
A lot of activity can be seen in the coming months as the low-performing S-Cross will soon be replaced by Maruti Suzuki Vitara. Also there will be launch of Toyota HyRyder.
It is to be seen how the entry of these two affect the SUV segment and the pie, however it is unlikely that Creta could be beaten in a single month.
