Tata-Owned Air India All Set To Buy 300 New Aircrafts: It Can Become World’s One Of The Biggest Aircraft Deals!

The former state-owned airline and now a Tata Group carrier Air India is known to be considering to put a purchase order of nearly 300 narrowbody jets, which could make this among the largest orders in the history of commercial aviation.

Further, Air India India is also in the process of overhaul under its new leg of ownership.

Air India Could Go for Boeing Jets

The European airplane manufacturer Airbus dominates the Indian skies, a super advantageous position for the manufacturer as the Indian aviation sector is the fastest growing in the world.

The low cost and top airline in the country IndiGo is the largest customer of the Netherland-based Airbus narrowbodies, ordering over 700 planes, while other airline companies like AirAsia India, Vistara and Go Airlines India also order from Airbus.

However, the anticipated large volume order by Air India may include models considering Airbus SE’s A320neo family jets or the 737 Max models of Boeing Co, or chances are it could place about 300 narrowbody jets’ order in a mix of both the companies’ jets.

According to people privy of the matter, a deal for the 300 737 Max-10 jets could be worth $40.5 billion at sticker prices, keeping aside the fact that such large volume orders could also attract value discounts.

Winning a narrowbody order in India would be a coup for Boeing, given its rival Airbus’ massive success in the Indian market, as per a DeccanHearld post.

At present, Airbus builds a total of about 50 narrowbody jets in one month, with plans to increase this count to 65 by mid 2023 and 75 by 2025. This means if the order of building 300 planes for Air India is given to Airbus, it will take the manufacturer years or even more than 10 years to produce and deliver a total of 300 narrowbody jets.
