Indigenous manufacturer Bajaj is among the largest and most valuable motorcycle manufacturers in the world with presence in 70 different countries.

It is the largest exporter of motorcycles from India and has sold over 18 million motorcycles worldwide.

They are now shifting their focus to the electric vehicle segment.

EV Factory Inauguration

To that end they have set up Chetak Technology Ltd which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bajaj Auto Ltd.

Chetak Technology Ltd inaugurated their newly built manufacturing facility at Akurdi, Maharashtra on the occasion of the 84th birth anniversary of late chairman Shri Rahul Bajaj.

This is a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility with cutting-edge technology dedicated to manufacturing electric two-wheelers only.

It covers over 5,00,000 sq/ft of land and is expected to generate employment for 11,000 people.

Function, Capacity

This will be the company’s manufacturing hub for design, development and production of EVs.

Chetak Technology and its vendor partners will invest nearly Rs 750 crores in this facility.

Moreover, the company says that its production capacity will be swiftly expanded to manufacture 5,00,000 electric two-wheelers per year.

The inauguration of this new plant is a homecoming for Bajaj Auto in many ways.

Akurdi is where the original iconic Chetak scooter was born in the 1970s and it went on to redefine mobility for generations in India.

Bajaj claims that over 14,000 Chetak e-scooters have been sold till date and more than 16,000 bookings have already been collected.
