According to the department, users are facing issues with the search option on the e-filing portal and after many users complained of issues while accessing the platform, the Income Tax Department has directed Infosys to fix the glitch on the I-T portal.

Issue Relating Search Functionality

In a tweet, Income Tax India said that the issue relating to the search functionality of the e-filing website caught their attention and the IT department will take care of the matter. Infosys has confirmed that the issue is being resolved on the priority and Infosys has been directed to investigate it.

The issue came up on the day when the new e-filing portal marks the first anniversary of its launch. In order to provide the taxpayers with a seamless and modern experience, last year on June 7 the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) had launched the new income tax e-filing portal– www.incometax.gov.in

Bengaluru-based IT giant Infosys developed the portal. The IT giant was given the contract to develop the portal in 2019.

Not the First Time Around!

Notably, it is not the very first time that the e-filing portal has experienced a glitch. With taxpayers and professionals reporting glitches and difficulties in its functioning on several occasions, the portal had a bumpy start since the beginning.

Due to this the government had extended the due date of filing tax returns and related forms for all taxpayers.

However, there was a confirmation from the Finance Ministry officials that there is a data breach on the portal.

There were reports of the portal being hacked by many users. However, there was no such confirmation by the I-T Department regarding the portal being hacked.
