Lo & Behold! Ambassador Is Making A Grand Comeback On Indian Roads: Rollout Expected Soon

There was a time when there were only handful of cars on Indian roads, and a lot of these were always an Ambassador!

And now, the legendary Ambassador is all set to make a grand comeback!

Read on to find out all the details!

Ambassador To Make A Comeback

The Ambassador nameplate will be making its debut in two years with a major revision. For this, a joint venture between Hind Motor Financial Corporation of India (HMFCI) and Peugeot brand is developing the powertrain and working on the design aspects.

As per reports, the new avatar of the Ambassador will be manufactured at the Hindustan Motors’ production facility in Chennai and is operational under HMFCI.

Back in 2017, Groupe PSA had signed two joint ventures with CK Birla group which was worth  more than 100 million euros at first. One month later, the Ambassador nameplate was bought from Hindustan Motors which is owned by CK Birla group for Rs. 80 crores.

Additionally, there also have been rumors that stated that the Ambassador name would be used exclusively for retailing electric vehicles in the Indian market by Groupe PSA.

New Ambassador Already Under Development?

Uttam Bose, Hundustan Motors’ Director has also revealed that the Ambassador with a new look is already works and the design and mechanical work for the new powertrain have already reached an advanced stage.

Once a status symbol, the Ambassador was launched in India in 1958 by Hindustan Motor Limited and has been in production since with very few changes here and there. It is based on the Morris Oxford III model made by the Morris Motor Company in Oxford.

Since it was probably the first big car in independent India it remained THE vehicle probably till the 80s. Not only a first mover advantage but also probably the only player in this space, Ambassador created a revolution for Indian vehicles.

The production of the car first began in 1956 and was stopped in 2014, and the final generation of the car were Grand, Avigo, and Encore.

This is still a developing story, and we’ll definitely inform you any more updates there are about the upcoming Ambassador!
