Govt Imposes Minimum, Maximum Fees For Engineering, Management Courses Across India: Rs 68,000 To Rs 3.04 Lakh

For an engineering course, a minimum annual fee of nearly Rs 68,000 in India was recommended by the All India Council for Technical Education’s (AICTE). This recommendation has been accepted by the education ministry.

As part of a panel report by AICTE, the suggestions on fixing a limit for minimum and maximum fee were given last month. For the implementation of the same, the council has written to all state and union territoty governments.

Minimum & Maximum Fees For Courses

The minimum and maximum annual fee for a three-year diploma course in engineering, as per the panel report, is Rs 67,900 and Rs 1,40,900 respectively. 

The minimum and maximum annual fee for a four-year degree programme in engineering has been fixed at Rs 79,600 and Rs 1,89,800 respectively.

The fees for the post graduate progamme has been capped at Rs 1,41,200 to Rs 3,04,000.

The minimum and maximum annual fee for a PG programme in management has been fixed at Rs 85,000 and Rs 1,95,200 respectively.

For various technical institutes which includes engineering and technology, management, applied arts and crafts, planning and MCA, minimum and maximum fees has been suggested by the panel.

Rajive Kumar, Member Secretary of AICTE said while confirming the development that “The panel report was accepted by the ministry early this week and we have already written to state and union territories to start implementing the fee structure.”

He added that since each and every state has its own fee review committee, it is now up to them to review the suggestions and decide a fee structure accordingly.

Minimum fee fixed for first time

States of Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh have commented on the panel report by AICTE. 

Under the chairmanship of Justice Srikrishna, a committee has been constituted by AICTE, to review the existing fee structures as well as fixing norms as well as guidelines for charging tuition and other costs.

In the month of August 2021, the report was submitted by the committee. The same was then circulated to the different states and union territories.

The report was finally submitted to the Ministry of Education, after receiving the views of states and UTs, and reviewing all aspects.

Though it is not the very first that the maximum fee slab was fixed, but it is the first time when there were suggestions given for a minimum fee.
