Copy-Paste Error By SBI Employee Leads To Rs 1.5 Crore Loss! This Is How Error Was Rectified By SBI

An SBI bank employee faced this nightmare scenario recently. A clerical mistake by this SBI employee resulted in the misuse of funds which were going to be used for the flagship programme called the Dalit Bandhu scheme by the government of Telengana. This scheme’s goal is to give one-time capital help of Rs. 10 lakh per SC family as a 100% grant or subsidy to enable them to establish a sustainable income source. 

?1.5 Crore Accidentally Transferred To 15 Employees

Police of Saifabad, which is one of the crutial suburbs in Hyderabad, registered a case against an ‘accidental’ beneficiary. It stated that on 24th April 2022, an employee of the SBI Rangareddy District Collectorate branch accidently transferred ?1.50 crore into the (salary) accounts of 15 employees of Lotus Hospitals that is ?10 lakh in each account.

14 out of the 15 employees returned the money

As soon as the mistake was realized, the bank officials called the hospital’s employees and requested them to transfer the amount back. Out of the 15 employees, 14 returned the money however, the lab technician Mahesh failed to send the money back, as he was not available over phone, said a senior official.

An officer added that “a copy-paste error by the bank employee has led to such a big fuss.”

Mahesh assumed that the ?10 lakh deposit was deposited into his bank account by Prime Minister Narendra Modi under some scheme so he reportedly withdrew some amount to clear his debt. 

“Despite repeated requests, he was not returning the money. As a result, on Wednesday, the bank official lodged a complaint, and a case under Section 403 of IPC was registered against Mahesh,” the officer said, as per a report.

No Complaint Against Bank Employee

The officials managed to recover ?6.70 lakh out of the ?10 lakh, Mahesh still has to pay the remaining ?3.30 lakh to the bank, the officer reportedly said.

As of yet, no case has been registered against the bank employee for his mistake, according to the reports.
