Honda is gearing up to launch the CR-V globally.

While it’s not available in India anymore, it remains a popular model for the brand overseas, especially the North American and Chinese markets.

Images have surfaced of the new model which will replace the fifth-generation SUV that made its debut back in 2016.

Dimensions

Its styling is a significant contrast from its predecessor’s.

It gets a more upright silhouette, and is dimensionally bigger than the existing model.

It measures 4,703mm in length, 1,866mm in width and 1,680mm in height and is 132mm longer, 13mm taller and 1mm narrower than the current-gen model.

Its wheelbase has been extended by 39mm to 2,701mm.

Front Appearance

The front resembles that of the new Honda HR-V, the new Civic, as well as the RS midsize SUV concept that was unveiled last year in Indonesia.

It gets a flatter, more upright nose and a new honeycomb pattern hexagonal grille which is flanked by slim headlights connected by a prominent chrome strip.

Side, Rear Profile

The bumpers feature a wide central air intake, angular creases, and some plastic cladding.

The side profile features a more angular look with plastic cladding on the wheel arches and doors, and a 10-spoke design for the alloy wheels.

At the rear one can see vertically positioned tail-lamps, like in all the previous generations.

The design of the rear tail-lamps looks similar to that of Volvo SUVs.

Interior

There are no interior images yet.

However, the cabin can be expected to follow the brand’s latest interior design language, with a tablet-type entertainment system with a touch-sensitive screen along with a refined and premium interior.

There are no details of the seating options either but is expected to come with an option with 7-seats.

Powertrain

The sixth-gen CR-V is likely to get only petrol engine options.

A 193hp, 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine is likely to be offered as well as a 2.0-litre four-cylinder, naturally-aspirated engine with twin electric motor set-up.

Honda could also offer the 1.5-litre petrol engine with its e:HEV mild-hybrid technology, similar to what’s offered on the HR-V.

History In India

The second generation CR-V came to India in 2004.

It was sold as a full import for two generations until the fourth-generation model was launched via the CKD route in 2013.

When launched, it was one of the first premium SUVs to be offered exclusively in a five-seat configuration.

India Plans

But CR-V along with Civic and Accord were pulled from India after Honda shut down operations at its Noida-based manufacturing facility.

It is difficult to predict if the upcoming model will come to India, considering the failure of the previous-gen model in the country.

However, Honda does have plans for the country, with reports that it is working on a new Creta-rivalling SUV based on the City platform for the Indian market.
