The youth of India now has another job opportunity open, provided by the Government, and even someone who has just passed their Class 12 exams can apply for this role.

We are talking about the role of drone pilots. The Indian Government is in need of approximately 1 lakh such drone pilots in the upcoming years, under the PLI scheme last year, more about this later.

Here’s everything you need to know about the drone pilot role and the Government’s boost in its demand.

India Boosts Drone Pilots’ Hiring

In a recent Niti Aayog event, Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said that India will be needing almost a lakh drone pilots over the upcoming years, and a total of 12 central ministries are working towards boosting the indigenous demand for drone services in India, stated PTI reports.

Scindia stated, “We are taking the drone sector forward on three wheels. The first wheel is policy. You have seen how fast we are implementing the policy”.

He talked about unlocking the vast drone pilots’ requirement in the country through 3 steps:

  • The first one would be the implementation of the policy,
  • The second one would be create incentives for the development, and
  • The final wheel would be to create indigenous demand for the same.

The production-linked incentive or PLI scheme was introduced in Sept last year by the Indian Government, following the liberalized Drone Rules, 2021 released by the ministry in August 2021.

“The PLI  scheme, which has been implemented under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, will give a fresh boost to manufacturing and services in the drone sector”, Scindia said.

Anyone who has passed their Class XII exams are eligible for getting trained as a drone pilot, without any requirement of college degrees, stated sources.

Once cleared in training, spanning over two-three months, the person will be eligible to a salary of around Rs 30,000.

“”We need close to a lakh drone pilots in the years to come. So the opportunity is tremendous,” he added.
