Tata Motors is going full force with its plans for the future and it looks electric.

Last month the company introduced two electric car concepts- Curvv and Avinya with the former being closer to production.

Its launch is expected in 2024 and Avinya in 2025

The carmaker has been filing new names.

Not all that is trademarked gets launched or is showcased as a concept but some do.

The New Names

For instance, Tata Motors had filed a trademark for the name just days before the unveiling of Curvv.

Along with that they had also filed Sliq although we are yet to hear anything about it.

The latest update from trademark filings is that Tata Motors’ Passenger Vehicle division has filed 4 new names.

These are – Tata Styzor, Tata Bovita, Tata Auroar and Tata Xiomara.

Tata Eyeing Global Market?

The names seem peculiar, derived from other languages such as Xiomara which is a Spanish-origin name.

This could imply that the manufacturer may go international with the upcoming vehicles..

Chances are high that these are the names of their upcoming electric cars.

Whether these names will result in actual cars in the future is anyone’s guess.

Reverse Move

All we know of the carmaker’s electric plans is that Curvv will become the first car from the company to be launched with an electric powertrain first.

This is a departure for the company which typically launched the petrol / diesel ICE option first, and then modified these to get fitted with electric motor and battery.

This happened with Nexon and Tigor.

Curvv

Curvv will be the first exception, having been designed from the ground up to be an electric car.

It will be launched with a petrol / diesel engine option after the electric version.

There are no plans to launch it as a hybrid.

Avinya

Avinya is poised to be the pinnacle of Tata Motors’ EV tech.

It will come with advanced autonomous driving tech like the one seen in Tesla.

Its platform is flexible meaning that it can spawn into SUVs, sedans / estates, crossovers, etc.

Near Future Plans

In the closer timeline, the manufacturer will launch the long-range version of Nexon EV (Nexon EV Max) within the next few days.

Altroz EV is expected to hit the shelves in the near future.

Sierra EV is currently under development and an electric version of Punch is also in consideration right now.

Taking Over Ford Plant

The company is set to take over the Ford India plant in Sanand.

It could commence production of its electric vehicle lineup from the Ford factory with a target of between 5-6 lakh cars in FY 2023.

It also plans to invest an additional Rs 2,000 crores into this plant for the manufacture of 2 lakh electric vehicles by 2026.
