In a joint venture, Maruti Suzuki and Toyota are developing a new midsize SUV for the Indian market.

Further, they plan to launch this SUV individually under their respective brands.

New Midsize SUV From Maruti Suzuki And Toyota

Coming to Maruti’s version, it was recently spied during road testing.

The test model  was being driven around Maruti Suzuki’s Gurugram plant.

So the new spy pictures give us a close look at the test model.

These spy images reveal the front end features which includes a large grille, along with a pair of vertically-split headlamps.

At the same time, the side profile is quite simplistic and fairly boxy overall.

It seems like the SUV will get wraparound tail lights, at the rear along with two parking sensors in the muscular rear bumper.

Notably, the design of the alloy wheels is the same as the ones on the 2022 Suzuki Vitara, already available in a few international markets.

Moreover, there could be more aesthetic similarities between the Vitara and this forthcoming Maruti SUV.

But, we need to wait for clearer spy pictures or the official debut to confirm that.

Powertrain And Fuel Efficiency

Coming to powertrains, this upcoming Maruti-Toyota SUV is expected to be available with two electrified engine choices.

One would be offered with a mild-hybrid option and the other would be a proper hybrid option.

The latter option will help in boosting the fuel economy numbers of the SUV.

This way, it would be one of the most fuel-efficient vehicles in its segment.

Features And Specifications

A lot of features and equipment are expected to be offered with this SUV such as an electric sunroof, a large touchscreen infotainment system, 360-degree camera, heads-up display, ventilated seats, six airbags, vehicle stability control, connected car tech, etc.

All these features will definitely help this SUV to become  competitive in its segment, unlike the Maruti S-Cross.

In terms of availability, this Maruti-Toyota SUV is expected to launch in the Indian market around Diwali this year.

One can expect significant visual differences in Maruti’s version (codenamed YFG) and Toyota’s version (codenamed D22).

Although, they will be mechanically identical.

They will compete with the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, etc on arrival.
