The California-based technology giant Google started the work on its campus based in Hyderabad, which will be the company’s largest campus outside the US.

This campus was expected to likely be completed and ready by 2019, however was pushed for later, and has finally started now.

Google’s New Campus in Hyderabad Starts Now

The work at Google’s 33 lakh square feet building to be built in Gachibowli, Hyderabad, has started and once completed, it will be the largest campus of the company outside the US.

K.T. Rama Rao, the Information Technology minister of Telangana, on the development while unveiling the building design in a ceremony said, “I am pleased that Google is deepening its roots in Hyderabad through this landmark building which incorporates sustainability into its design, keeping in mind Hyderabad’s large and future-focused talent pool”.

Google also revealed the campus design of another such campus coming up at a site of 7.3 acre size it had acquired in 2019.

The building prioritizes sustainability and energy efficiency throughout its design. Upon commissioning, it will offer a highly skilled tech workforce a healthy, collaborative workplace that is both resilient and adaptable, designed to serve the city for years to come, stated Google.

The campus witnessed an investment worth Rs 1,000 crore, and the agreement was signed between the Telangana government and the tech giant in 2015.

New Agreement Signed Between Google and Telangana Govt

On Thursday, the tech giant Google signed an MoU with the Telangana government, according to which it will support and work towards fulfilling the state’s vision of leveraging technology for development of a sustainable economy, along with an inclusive social development.

Under the agreement, Google will work together with the state government for 

  • expansion of scholarships for Google Career Certificates to the state’s youth, 
  • support female entrepreneurs by training them in the sphere’s of digital, business and financial skills, and
  • bolster the modernisation efforts of govt schools by making them inclusive of digital teaching, along with learning tools and solutions.
