All 6000 Employees Of AirBnB Can Work From Home Forever: No Need To Visit Office, Ever

On Thursday, Airbnb announced that the employees would be permanently able to work from anywhere, be it from their homes, office or while in transit during travelling to different countries.

There will be no compensation change for the employees who work in the lower cost of living areas. In an email to the staff of Airbnb, Chief Executive Officer Brian Chesky said that there will be regular in-person meet-ups and and retreats.

A Move Towards More Flexible World

This move, said the CEO, is part of a rather broader shift at the company to accommodate the remote work. In his email, he wrote that “The world is becoming more flexible about where people can work. We see this in our own business. We wouldn’t have recovered so quickly from the pandemic had it not been for millions of people working from Airbnbs.”

In January, Chesky said that for months he would live and work out of Airbnbs.

Company Data Reveals the Trend

After the start of the pandemic, this choice became increasingly popular, according to the company. The company revealed that nearly half of nights booked on Airbnb between July and December were part of stays that were one month or longer. They added that in the past year 175,000 people used the platform to book stays for three months or longer.

Including verified Wi-Fi connections, to support remote-work trends, there have been as many as 150 updates added by the Airbnb.

The company also said it would work with governments and travel destinations to build out support for people living abroad for an extended period while working.
