The messaging app WhatsApp has recently introduced multi-device support, a highly anticipated feature which has been available on its rival app Telegram for a long time.

WhatsApp Business has become popular not only for businesses but also for people who have two SIM cards and want to use WhatsApp on both their phones. Businesses have utilized WhatsApp Business to connect with their customers, answer questions and take orders.

As of right now, WhatsApp allows users to connect four additional devices for free, both on the WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business. As per a report by WaBetaInfo, this might soon change as WhatsApp seems to be looking to introduce a paid subscription for WhatsApp Business.

WhatsApp Business’s paid subscription

As per the above report, the paid subscription is going to allow WhatsApp Business users to connect up to 10 devices to one WhatsApp account which will make it easier for businesses to connect with their customers as various employees are going to be able to access the same account on their phones.

Other new features may be added to the paid subscription plan

Currently, it is not known if the subscription gives people access to other features but the expectation is that the Meta-owned messaging app is going to add various new features to make the subscription plan more appealing. Even the cost and subscription period of the subscription plan are not yet disclosed and there is no information about whether this is a one-time subscription or if users will have to pay a recurring fee. The company has also given no indication that WhatsApp Business as a whole would be behind a paywall once the paid membership is made available.

The subscription is likely to be limited to WhatsApp Business and regular WhatsApp users might not get this option to avail the subscription plan.

Will WhatsApp continue to be a free service?

WhatsApp has always been a free service and it is probably going to continue that way in the future. A good comparison to the upcoming paid subscription is Twitter Blue, which gives users access to various unique features and advantages while Twitter – the app as a whole still remains free.
