TATA Curvv Concept Decoded: Find Out Why Curvv Can Disrupt Electric Mobility In India

Last year, TATA sold around 400 units of their 1st Gen TATA Nexon EV when they entered the EV market & now in 2022, they showed a whopping 400% rise in their EV sales just by selling out their TATA Nexon & TATA Tigor EVs. Primary reasos being an affordable price range, and futuristic features that entice users.

Now, Tata wants to expand its horizon of electric vehicles, and with that solid determination, they have unveiled the Curvv concept.

TATA launched its Curvv concept on 8th April 2022 which shows us a futuristic design with a clear SUV Coupe Design & a Digital element in mind! Also, according to Tata officials, the Curvv is ahead of the curve in the EV game, and thus hence, the name.

It’s sleek, stylish, sporty & minimalistic at the same time. According to TATA, it’s going to be an EV exclusive car at first.  Of course this is just a concept & not an actual car. But you’ll see most of its design & build elements on upcoming TATA Motor cars soon & by soon we mean from 2024 onwards!

Let’s find out the amazing new features of Curvv concept, and explore the reasons why it can actually disrupt the electric mobility space in India!

Dimensions

In terms of size, the Curvv is 4.3 meters long, with a wheelbase of 2560mm, a width of 1870mm, and a height of 1616mm. To put things in perspective, that makes the Curvv as long as the Creta, and wider too, although the wheelbase is slightly shorter, and it’s not as tall either.

Looks & Design:

By the looks, it feels totally aerodynamic & I must say the Head of Design, Mr Martin Ulharik has done a wonderful job of implementing an SUV Coupe concept in the TATA Motors car line up. It almost looks like a BMW X4/X6 if you look at it from far away.

One the front, you see a panoramic LED line strip that extends from one end to the other & is raised at both ends. This is different from the current split LED lights that we see on the current gen cars.

On the lower end the triangular shaped lights aren’t fog lights but are the LED headlights & inbuilt slit air vents itself.

The TATA logo seems to have changed as it seems to be emerging out from the hood. Giving it kind of a 3D element.

The lower bumper has a high gloss black grille/slits/stripes that make it look different from what’s already in the market.

The wheels on the show car are a massive 20 inches but will be smaller on the production car, although Tata is claiming that almost 95 percent of the car will be kept as it is for the production version.

You get an EV badging on the lower end of the door just like the current gen TATA EV cars.

The lower end of the doors also have the same grille/slits/stripes like the front.

Even the aero blade designed alloy wheels have somewhat similar grids/slits/stripes & it runs all around the vehicle, making a statement that it could be a key design part of the upcoming lineup of vehicles from TATA.

The rear end of the concept is completely minimalistic & continues to keep the LED tail lamps strip just like the headlamps from the front that go end to end. Here you’ll see 2 different strips, 1 – on the back window, that run all around the edges & 1 – that look like the classic tail lights.

The rear spoiler seems to be a spin off of the TATA Altroz 45X concept & keeps the same split spoiler note while being shortened.

The doors as we saw were controlled by an app, so does that mean that we can have a fully app controlled/connected car from TATA soon? Let me know in the comments!

But the doors as you see have a very futuristic motion & sound when it opens & closes.

From the interiors, TATA has managed to keep it very minimalistic & subtle & not a lot of elements have been added but this minimalistic interior design could soon be a part of the next gen EV cars from 2024.

Interior

The rear seats are separate/split.You also get a panoramic sunroof that extends from front to end. The dashboard is layered & also has the same lining strips as the exteriors & the dashboards seems less busy than usual & only consists of instrument cluster & the infotainment system. The central screen is 12.3 inches in size, while the instrument console is 10.2 inches. The buttons for windows are all capacitive touch units, and the doors are motorized too. So you have to press a button on the door panel to open the electrically operated doors. The fabrics used for dash upholstery and seats are high-quality recycled materials.

The steering has a 2-spoke wheel design. So this is what the Gen 2 of TATA Motors will look or be designed like!

Battery & Range :

The EV cars based on this concept will have a better battery pack than the current Nexon’s 30.2 kWh battery (speculated 40-45kWh) & a range of about 400-500kms which is more than the current gen EVs according to TATA but the only question remains is at what price range will we see the car?

Sources say that it’ll be so priced that everybody will be able to afford it just like the current TATA EVs with different powertrains.

Now TATA Motors states that this is going to be an EV first car & then will be implemented in ICE(Petrol & Diesel) variants as well, but that’ll take another 2-3 years for mass production.

What do you think about this futuristic TATA Concept Curvv? And how many of these elements would you see in the upcoming TATA EV cars? Let us know!
