The rising fuel costs and environmental concerns in India is definitely giving a boost to the country’s electric car industry as it is growing at a rapid pace every day.

Toyota And Maruti Suzuki Midsize Electric SUV

Considering the demands, Toyota and Maruti Suzuki both carmakers are hard at work on a worldwide midsize electric SUV

and why not as this will be their first big foray into the EV market.

One can say that both manufacturers are playing catch-up in India’s EV market.

But, their forthcoming car says another story as it is expected to cost in the range of Rs 13-15 lakh (ex-showroom) due to the maximum use of localized parts.

Toyota And Maruti Suzuki Midsize Electric SUV Features And Specifications

In terms of dimensions, the upcoming vehicle could be as long as 4.3 meters with a wheelbase of 2.7 meters.

This simply implies that the electric SUV would be bigger than the top-selling EV in India, the Tata Nexon EV.

Or it may be similar in size to the recently updated MG ZS EV.

Toyota and Maruti Suzuki are expected to sell their midsize electric SUVs at a competitive price to leverage their size advantage.

Suzuki plans to build these two models at its Gujarat facility for both the local and international markets.

Moreover, the two models will be bigger than the ICE Hyundai Creta.

The cabin will be more spacious and will allow for optimal battery packaging as it has the long wheelbase of the electric skateboard.

There is no doubt that the Toyota SUV will be influenced by the bZ4X, a dedicated electric crossover with a modular eTNGA platform.

Toyota And Maruti Suzuki Midsize Electric SUV Launch

The electric SUVs arrival is expected by the middle of this decade.

The SUV will be offered in 2WD and 4WD configurations.

It will have an electric motor and a 48 kWh battery pack which will produce 140 PS of power.

This generated power will allow the vehicle to cover about 400 km.

At the same time, a larger 59 kWh battery pack will provide 172 PS of power to two electric motors and is expected to have a range of 500 km on a single charge in real-world conditions.

After the debuting of the new Vitara Brezza by Maruti Suzuki, Toyota is expected to introduce an updated Urban Cruiser shortly.

This new midsize SUV based on the DNGA platform by Toyota will compete with rivals like Hyundai Creta.
