Indigo Becomes World’s Fastest Growing Airlines! Ranked 6th Biggest Airlines Based On This Parameter

IndiGo, India’s low-cost airline, has now been named the world’s sixth-largest carrier, as confirmed by the UK-based Official Airline Guide (OAG).

As of October 2021, IndiGo is the largest airline in India by passengers carried and fleet size, with a 53.5% domestic market share.

IndiGo Becomes Sixth Largest Carrier In The World 

As per the statistics till March 28, the airline has carried more than 2.02 million passengers in the month, which is the most by any Asian carrier. 

In March, IndiGo has also been named the world’s fastest-growing airline by OAG, with a growth of 41.3 percent growth in frequency. It was also among the top 10 airlines in the world by seat capacity for March.  

Ronojoy Dutta, wholetime director and chief executive, IndiGo, said, “It is exciting to see IndiGo among the top airlines in the world. It also is a moment of pride for India, and a strong indicator that the nation is bouncing back strongly from the pandemic.”

She also said that the airline will probably open more routes and frequencies as the restrictions will be loosened across the globe. Also, this will enable an increased number of passengers to experience an “affordable, on-time, safe and hassle-free travel experience, onboard our lean clean flying machine.”

IndiGo Only Indian Airline To Appear On The List

IndiGo is the only Indian airline to appear on this list released by OAG data. This data includes airport and route capacity along with a list of the 20 largest worldwide airlines by flights based on monthly data.

The airline recently announced the re-introduction of scheduled operations of more than 150 foreign flights from various airports in India in April. The domestic network has also been expanded by IndiGo with multiple new routes.

We recently reported that Indigo will start 100 flights connecting key metro cities and regional centres starting from March 27. Effective from the same date, the airline will introduce flights on 20 exclusive routes.

It is also going to begin the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS) route from Prayagraj-Lucknow on the same day. It plans to re-commence exclusive flights on various routes, including Pune-Mangaluru, Pune-Visakhapatnam, Hubli-Hyderabad, Jammu-Varanasi and Tirupati-Tiruchirappalli.

Its scheduled international flights will operate from cities like Delhi, Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Lucknow, Hyderabad, Amritsar Kozhikode, Kochi, Chandigarh, Tiruchirappalli, Thiruvananthapuram, and Mangaluru.

The international destinations include Dammam, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Jeddah, Riyadh, Doha, Bangkok, Phuket, Singapore, Colombo, Dubai, Kathmandu, Maldives, and Dhaka.

It will begin bookings for flights to Muscat and Kuala Lumpur in May 2022 and to Istanbul in June 2022.
