Mahindra New Electric Car Will Cost Rs 9 Lakh Or Less! Electric KUV 100 Launch Before Tata Punch EV?

Mahindra was considered as a trailblazer by many, when it came to the electric car segment. They had on offer cars like e2O and later e2O Plus which could hardly be considered as rivals. However, these cars never lived up to expectations when it came to delivering sales performance. Some people were of the opinion that sales were not adequate, because there was no demand.

But, things have changed now. With the excitement around EVs rising, Mahindra is planning to release multiple new products in the next few years. At the last Auto Expo, Mahindra displayed three pre-production concept EVs. One of the car models was eKUV100 which is a battery-powered version of KUV100 Nxt. 

Mahindra eKUV100 Launch Details 

Speculations in relation to the launch of the KUV100 electric have been circulating since it was showcased. A few months ago, the company even hinted at the electric cross hatch on its official website for a short period. Later, reports indicated that Mahindra had scratched plans for the electric KUV100 as of right now and that it could be released as a dedicated EV for the fleet segment. 

But, according to the latest report from ET Auto, the entry-level electric crossover is in the final stages of development and testing and will be coming to the markets by the end of 2022. It is likely to be released before the upcoming XUV300 Electric which is expected to be launched somewhere at the start of 2023.

Expected Price & Range 

At the time of its reveal at 2020 Auto Expo, Mahindra had pinned the starting launch price of eKUV100 at Rs 8.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) along with the FAME incentives. But, that might not be easy to achieve due to the rise in input costs over the past few months due to multiple factors. 

Mahindra still wants to price it under Rs. 10 lakh mark. This will make the car model a rival to Tata Tigor EV which is currently the most affordable electric car in India. The expectation is that the upcoming Mahindra KUV100 Electric will offer a range of around 250 kms. on a single charge. The car is going to rival the upcoming electric versions of Punch, Kwid, etc. 

Mahindra’s Electric Mobility Plans

Mahindra is in the commercial segment of electric vehicles with three-wheelers and smaller LCVs like Treo and eAlfa. In the previous year, Mahindra & Mahindra toughened its electric mobility operations by setting up two separate EV verticals namely Last Mile mobility (LMM) and Electric Vehicle Tech Centre. 

The company also announced a new capital investment of approximately Rs. 3000 crores in LMM and release of a new electric SUV platform namely, Born Electric Vision. Mahindra has hunted at three new electric SUVs under the Born Electric Vision platform on social media. These car models will be making their first appearances in July 2022.
