Mahindra’s New Electric SUV Teased: Price Under Rs 15 Lakh? Launch Date?

The official reveal will take place in July.

Mahindra has shared a sneak peek of the interior of its upcoming electric SUV.

The official reveal will take place in July.

The interior was designed by Mahindra’s UK-based MADE (Mahindra Advance Design Europe) division headed by Pratap Bose.

The company had released a teaser last month for its upcoming ‘Born Electric Vision’ range comprising three electric SUV concepts.

The Trio

They are likely to be a compact SUV, a midsize SUV and an SUV coupe.

Out of the three SUVs teased, the SUV coupe will likely be the XUV900 coupe.

The midsize SUV is likely to be an electric version of the XUV700.

The third model is expected to be based on the XUV300, although it will likely be named the XUV400 upon launch.

They will be based on a new bespoke electric platform.

It is not clear what model the latest teaser of the interior belongs to, however the design language may be adopted for all three SUVs.

Modern And Futuristic

The interior is equipped with a dual infotainment screen set-up like on the XUV700.

There is a new wrap-around design around the driver, starting from the centre console and continuing over to the driver’s side door.

It is a bright red ambient light on the dashboard behind the steering wheel which surrounds the cockpit area.

Overall, it seems to have a minimalistic theme, with the AC vents hidden in the dashboard like in Audis.

Other Interior Highlights

Other highlights include a hexagonal, two-spoke design for the steering wheel and a panoramic sunroof.

The centre console panel is huge, separating the driver and passenger side with a bar.

A closer look at this console suggests that the gearbox will be inspired by the one inside the new XUV700.

Safety Features

Features expected in the vehicles after the XUV700 include ADAS functions such as:

  • Front collision warning
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane departure warning
  • Automatic emergency braking

There are no details on the battery specifications, range or power of any of these SUVs but it should be revealed as the launch approaches.

The official teaser.

Launch, Battery, Competition

However, it may be safe to assume that Mahindra will take at least another year to come up with the production version of these EVs.

Some portals are expecting the SUV to run on a 40 kWh battery pack which will generate approximately 130 Bhp and a driving range of approximately 300 kms.

Upon launch, it faces the daunting challenge of stepping up to Tata Motors which leads the EV segment with the Nexon and Tigor EVs, enjoying a 96% market share.

Pricing

Coming to the pricing, the size of the vehicle will matter because the bigger it is, the more battery power it will require.

Current battery packs are expensive.

But Mahindra’s current range of SUVs are known for their affordability, so they may continue that legacy with the new SUVs.
