Suzuki is going to be developing a huge range of SUVs for global markets in these upcoming years. Many of these models are being developed by the company’s Indian subsidiary- Maruti. These car models are expected to be offered in international markets.

Toyota Ignisocieteit (Suzuki Ignis appreciation society) has formulated a list of upcoming SUVs from Maruti Suzuki according to their speculated reveal timelines in the country. Here is the list of the upcoming Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming SUVs.

New-Gen Brezza (YXA)

The next big ticket launch from Maruti is the new generation Brezza which is expected to be launched in the market by the second quarter of 2022. The subcompact SUV is scraping the prefix ‘Vitara’ from the earlier model with the goal of forming a new identity. For this purpose, there will be a lot of rework on the exterior and interior design. The internal codename for this car model is YXA. It is expected that this SUV  will be based on a revamped version of the existing platform. 

New Compact SUV co-developed with Toyota (YFG) 

There has been a lot of discussion about this SUV as it is in a segment targeted by almost every car manufacturer in India currently. The space is currently controlled by Korean car companies – Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos and rivaled by German and Czech companies – Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. This car model is internally codenamed YFG. Ths SUV is being spearheaded by Maruti in association with Toyota under their global alliance. YFG is supposedly going to be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) platform. 

Baleno-based crossover (YTB)

A notable fact is that Maruti is also developing a second subcompact crossover. This car model is going to be based on the new Heartect platform supporting the new Baleno. It seems like this SUV is going to be a Coupe-style crossover and will have similar specifications as the premium hatch. It’s internal codename is YTB, this Coupe-style crossover is expected to be revealed sometime in 2023.

All-new electric SUV (YY8 BEV) 

A by-product of the Suzuki and Toyota collaboration, this car model will mark Maruti’s first endeavour in the electric vehicle (EV) space in India. This SUV will be offered in the C-segment. Its total length is expected to be around 4.3 metre. It is going to be based on a dedicated electric skateboard and is being developed for the global market. 

The SUV’s global debut is expected to be around October of the year 2024 in Europe. This will be followed by its launch in India at the start of the year 2025. It will have a locally-sourced battery pack and is going to be manufactured at Suzuki’s Gujarat-based plant.

Three-row SUV (Y17) Mid Size 

Maruti is also developing a seven seater SUV that is meant to rival new three-row models like Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus and Kia Carens. This SUV has the potential of being the seven seater version of the new 5 seater compact SUV YFG, which is planned for launch this year. 

Other upcoming models 

Suzuki will be launching some very exciting options for global markets in the next few years which may also come to the Indian market at some point.  The Japanese auto giant has also revealed the new-gen S-Cross a few months earlier which is expected go on sale in Europe soon. 

Suzuki is also working on a new A-segment micro crossover which is meant to replace Ignis by next year. Some media reports claim that this car model will also be available in a fully-electric avatar and could also reach the Indian market as an entry-level EV. Maruti is also working on an MPV in collaboration with Toyota.
