First State In India

This makes the state the first to offer the MBBS course in Hindi.

The state government will offer the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) course to medical aspirants in Hindi medium in one of its medical colleges.

Bhopal’s Gandhi Medical College will be the first to teach in Hindi from April this year.

Reason Behind Decision

Sarang said that the decision was taken after research showed that learning in mother tongue has benefits and produces better results.

Also taken into consideration was the fact that students who study in Hindi till senior secondary level have to suddenly switch to English during their medical studies.

Developing Hindi Curriculum

A 14-member committee headed by Medical Education Director Dr Jiten Shukla has been formed who will prepare the work plan for the MBBS Hindi curriculum.

Officials have done step-by-step preparation and have also spoken to subject matter experts to get books prepared in Hindi.

Lectures will also be delivered in Hindi.

How It Will Work

In the first phase, students who opt for Hindi as the medium of instruction will be taught in Hindi and English for two months each.

In the second phase, supplementary books for Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry subjects will be prepared.

Three committees have been constituted to complete this work plan.
