Maruti Baleno 2022 Vs Hyundai i20, Honda Jazz, Volkswagen Polo, Tata Altroz For Fuel Efficiency: Which Is The Best?

Recently, Maruti has launched the facelifted Baleno which is priced between Rs 6.35 lakh to Rs 9.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). 

Baleno Facelift Launch

The Baleno facelift offers a refreshed styling along with new LED lighting, a tweaked front grille, new alloys, and redesigned bumpers. 

Coming to features, it has received a 360-degree camera, six airbags, ESP (electronic stability program) with hill-hold assist (only for AMT), a larger 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a head-up display.

In terms of powertrain the new facelift has gained a 90PS 1.2-litre petrol engine, paired with 5-speed manual and AMT. 

It seems that the CVT on the pre-facelift model has been replaced by an affordable AMT. 

Please note here that there is no mild-hybrid technology on offer either, though the idle start-stop system will be offered. 

Baleno Comparison With Its Rivals

To make it easy, let’s go through a quick fuel economy comparison of the new Baleno with its rivals such as Volkswagen Polo, Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, and Tata Altroz. 

• First of all, the facelifted Maruti Baleno is the most fuel efficient hatchback among its rivals. 
• The upgraded Baleno’s economy has dipped by nearly 1.5kmpl as it came with the mild-hybrid tech. 
• Its AMT variant claims to offer almost 3.5kmpl more than the older version which has CVT. 
• The facelifted Baleno’s rival, Jazz and Polo are among the least fuel-efficient models in the segment. 
• If we compare the automatic variants, the Baleno AMT scores the highest marks at the same time, the Volkswagen Polo’s torque converter scores the least. 

This comparison hasn’t taken the Glanza because it’s going to get a facelift this March. 

It is expected to get the same updates (including that of the engine and transmission) as seen on the new Baleno. 

It seems that its power and fuel economy figures will be identical to the Maruti hatch.
