In the coming days, Maruti is all set to launch the facelifted Baleno followed by the updated Toyota Glanza in March.

Baleno And Toyota Glanza Facelift Launch

Both hatchbacks are poised to get a host of upgrades in the facelift, especially an AMT gearbox option which is a first for the duo.

Maruti will continue to offer the facelifted Baleno in six trims including Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Zeta (O), Alpha, and Alpha (O).

Though, the Indian auto manufacturer has now chosen to provide the hatchback with a more affordable 5-speed AMT automatic gearbox instead of the previously offered CVT automatic.

It is noteworthy here that the new automatic transmission will be offered on all trims except for the base-spec Sigma.

Baleno And Toyota Glanza Facelift Powertrain

Both the facelifts will get the 1.2-litre DualJet petrol engine (90PS/113Nm) with idle-engine start/stop and a 5-speed MT as standard.

It seems that the carmaker has dropped the previous 83PS 1.2-litre petrol, CVT as well as the mild-hybrid option this time.

Coming to Baleno MT, it will return 22.35kmpl compared to its AMT counterpart, which has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 22.94kmpl.

The same will be applicable to the updated Glanza’s efficiency figures, as they are badge engineered.

Mileage figures for the previous MT and CVT versions of the Baleno stood at 23.87kmpl and 19.56kmpl, respectively.

Basically, the introduction of the AMT gearbox resulted in an increase in the fuel efficiency of the hatchback with the automatic transmission.

On the other hand, the 1.52kmpl drop in the manual’s efficiency is certainly caused by the missing mild-hybrid tech.

Segment First Features

In terms of features, both models will get a couple of segment-firsts including a 360-degree camera and a heads-up display.

Beside this, it will offer a new 9-inch touchscreen unit, connected car tech (telematics), and cruise control.

Both will share the same safety kit offering up to six airbags, ISOFIX child seat anchorages, and electronic stability programme with hill-hold assist (to be limited to the AMT variants).

Coming to pricing, the expected prices for 2022 Baleno starting from Rs 6.5 lakh.

While, the updated Toyota hatchback could be priced from Rs 7.5 lakh onwards (both ex-showroom).
