Reliance Jio’s Satellite Internet All Set To Launch In India; Partnership Inked With This Firm

In order to provide satellite-based broadband services in India, On Monday, Digital services company Jio Platforms announced a joint venture with Luxembourg-based SES.

A joint venture named Jio Space Technology Limited has been formed between the companies. In this venture, Jio Platforms (JPL) and SES will own 51 percent and 49 percent equity stake respectively.

In India, this joint venture will be the vehicle for providing SES’s satellite data and connectivity services. This does not include certain international aeronautical and maritime customers who may be served by SES.

The statement said that it shall not only have an availability of up to 100Gbps capacity from SES but also leverage Jio’s premiere position and sales reach in India in order to unlock this market opportunity.

A combination of geostationary (GEO), and medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite constellations, multi-orbit space networks shall be used by this joint venture. This is capable of delivering multi-gigabit links and capacity to enterprises, mobile backhaul and retail customers across the length and breadth of India and neighbouring regions.

According to the statement, based on certain milestones along with gateways and equipment purchase with total contract value of circa $100 million (roughly Rs. 750 crore), Jio has entered into a multi-year capacity purchase agreement.

Jio Shall Connect To The Remotest Place Now

This new joint venture with SES will further accelerate the growth of multigigabit broadband, while the company continues to expand their fibre based connectivity and FTTH business and invest in 5G said Jio Director Akash Ambani. Jio shall now be able to connect to the remotest towns and villages, enterprises, government establishments, and consumers to the new Digital India due to the additional coverage and capacity offered by satellite communications services.
