12 Upcoming Electric Car Launches In India That Can Disrupt Auto Market! (Tata, Hyundai, Mahindra & More)

Electric Vehicle or “EV” is the buzzword in the auto space. With many manufacturers eying on this promising segment, following are the 12 upcoming electric vehicles that will launch in India.

Tata Punch

Punch has seen a remarkable success and within 12 days of its launch, it became second bestselling car in the Tata portfolio. Tata said that currently they are exploring other powertrain options and EV can be one of them. Being based on ALFA platform, electrification is always an option. Lets see!

Tata Nexon EV Long-Range

Tata Motors is working on a long-distance version of the Nexon EV. It will come with a 40 kWh battery pack for sale next to the current 30.2 kWh battery pack. The longer version will come with rear brakes, Electronic Stability Control and adjustable brake regeneration.

Tata Altroz EV

Tata Altroz EV, which looks like the regular Altroz, was displayed at the Auto Expo 2020. However, it differs from the regular Altroz when it comes to bumper, alloy wheels and cabin. Altroz is also based on the ALFA platform which is compatible with electrification.

Tata Blackbird EV

Based on X1 platform, “Blackbird” shall essentially be a Nexon’s Coupe version, a mid-size SUV which Tata Motors is working on. Interestingly, Tata Motors will launch the Blackbird as an EV first, the ICE version will follow later on.

Tata Sierra EV

The domestic producer will return the brand name “Sierra” to the Indian market. However, in this case Sierra will only be provided as an electric car. Tata showed off the Sierra EV at Auto Expo 2020. The electric SUV is in the early stages of development and will not be released before 2025. It will be based on the new Sigma platform which is specially developed for electric vehicles.

MG ZS EV Facelift

MG will launch the ZS EV Facelift this month. It will be based on Astor launched last year in the Indian market. The ZS EV will also come with a large battery pack that should help increase driving performance. The interior will also look like Astor. MG will add many things that the current ZS EV misses.

Hyundai Kona Electric Facelift

Kona was the first electric car introduced in the Indian market. However, Hyundai sold fewer units in Kona Electric compared to its competitors. The electric crossover will be fixed and Hyundai is expected to launch an update this year.

Mahindra eKUV100

Mahindra unveiled the eKUV100 at Auto Expo 2020. It will be the most affordable electric car offered by Mahindra. Test kits for electric micro-SUV are already on the Indian roads. Mahindra will launch the KUV100 EV this year or next year. It will be aimed at people who use the car when going to the cities every day.

Mahindra XUV300 EV

The XUV300 EV is expected to be named XUV400 because Mahindra wants to distinguish between the EV and ICE versions. The test mule was recently detected and had a front left charging hole. It was a low-spec version because it worked with steel wheels.

MG’s affordable compact SUV

MG has already announced that their next car in the Indian market will be an affordable electric crossover. It will be priced competitively to compete with the Tata Nexon EV. They are trying to get a new car for less than Rs. 15 lakh. MG will also try to increase local performance. The new electric car is expected to be launched in 2023.

Hyundai IONIQ 5

Hyundai will bring their IONIQ 5 to the Indian market this year. For now, it will come as a CBU. IONIQ 5 is based on a new space built for electric vehicles. Available in two battery packs. IONIQ 5 is a car that looks very promising and turns many heads.

An affordable Hyundai electric car

Hyundai has announced that it will introduce an affordable electric car to the Indian market. It will be based on an existing ICE forum. Currently, not much is known about this new EV. However, there are still a few years left.
