Tata Play (Formerly Tata Sky) Users Will Get Netflix & Other OTTs Via Tata Binge+ (Price, USPs)

It has now included Netflix in its OTT offerings on the Binge service.

Just yesterday, Tata Sky announced that it is rebranding itself to Tata Play, marking the company’s expansion beyond its DTH business into OTT and broadband.

Its services include the renamed Tata Play Fiber- a 100% fiber network, and aggregator app Tata Play Binge which offers content from 13 OTT platforms and broadcast channels in one integrated pack.

Prices To Be Announced

It has now included Netflix in its OTT offerings on the Binge service which provides TV Channels and OTT apps in a single combo plan.

Starting January 27, Play DTH subscribers can access Netflix via 90 bundles, but its details and costs have not been disclosed.

Exclusive Set Top Box Required

What we do know is that the service will only work through the Tata Play Binge+ Smart set top box and not on regular set top boxes.

The Smart set top box gives direct access to OTT apps including Netflix via the home screen and the remote.

The box costs Rs 2,499 and another Rs 299 monthly for Tata Play Binge which has the OTT apps.

Features include:

  • 1080p resolution
  • Built-in Chromecast
  • Voice search powered by Google
  • Option for Live TV through satellite or internet
  • Access to Google Play Store

How It Works

Customers can choose from Netflix’s Basic, Standard and Premium plans via the new combo packs and use Tata Play’s wallet for seamless billing, instead of paying for Netflix separately.

Those with existing subscriptions to Amazon Prime Video, Disney+Hotstar or any other service can access it from the smart set top box as well.

Mutual Benefits

With the new development, the company seeks to provide a unified experience to its customers who are consuming content on a variety of platforms.

Netflix recently slashed its rates to Rs 199 for the basic mobile plan accessible on any device.

These revisions will help it reach a wider subscriber base and also help Tata Play improve its ARPU.
