Since the onslaught of the pandemic, supply chains all over the world have been disrupted. Even though vaccination programs are in full swing throughout the world, the various mutations sprouting out in between have led to sporadic lockdowns everywhere. And it has done no good to supply essentials for car manufacturing. This also includes the disruption in the supply of semiconductors.

The automakers also can’t keep on taking the brunt for a long time and need to pass on the buck to customers as well. And it looks like Maruti Suzuki India has just done that.

Maruti Suzuki increases prices by up to 4.3%

On Saturday, the country’s largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) it has increased the prices of its models by up to 4.3 percent with immediate effect. This step has been taken to partially offset the impact of the rise in input costs. The company has enhanced prices across its models in the range of 0.1 percent to 4.3 percent owing to an increase in various input costs.

“The weighted average price increase in ex-showroom Prices (Delhi) across models is 1.7 percent. The new prices are effective from today,” Maruti Suzuki said in a regulatory filing.

This is not the first hike in recent times

In December 2021, the company had stated that it has been forced to hike prices due to the increase in the cost of essential commodities like steel, aluminum, copper, plastic and precious metals over the last year.

It should be noted that Maruti Suzuki India sells a range of cars from Alto to S-Cross priced between ?3.15 lakh and ?12.56 lakh, respectively.
