Degrees, MarksSheets Saved In DigiLocker Are Valid, No College Can Deny Them: UGC

Many state and central education boards already provide digital documents.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has said that educational documents issued on the DigiLocker platform are valid documents.

DigiLocker Docs Treated As Valid

It has issued the notice to Higher Educational Institutions (HEI) to accept documents like degrees, mark sheets in digital format.

The UGC has been designated as an authorized body by the Education Ministry to implement National Academic Depository (NAD) as a permanent scheme in cooperation with DigiLocker.

DigiLocker is a secure cloud based initiative by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

Users can store, share and verify documents and certificates on the portal.

How It Helps Students

The NAD is an online storage for academic documents.

Students can get authentic documents/certificates in digital format directly from their original issuers anytime and anywhere without requiring any physical interference.

Academic institutions can register themselves and upload their academic awards on NAD through the DigiLocker NAD portal.

The DigiLocker platform has the facility to pull students’ documents into the issued documents section in an electronic form once uploaded by the original issuer.

Institutions On Board

As per the provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000, these electronic records are valid documents.

To ensure a wider reach for the NAD programme, colleges and universities have been requested to accept academic documents in Digilocker account as valid documents.

Many state and central education boards, including CBSE and higher educational institutions already provide digital documents.

Students can download the DigiLocker app or register themselves on digilocker.gov.in to access digital copies of their documents.
