Airtel #1 In Customer Complaints, Issues; Jio has Least Customer Complaints (TRAI Data)

TRAI is not responsible for the handling of individual consumer complaints.

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has reported that it receives the most number of complaints against Airtel.

Jio Customers Most Satisfied

It is followed by Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio.

It was shared with the Parliament that TRAI received 16,111 service-related complaints against Bharti Airtel in 2021, followed by 14,487 against Vodafone Idea and 7,341 against Reliance Jio.

Of the 14,487 complaints against Vodafone Idea, 9,186 were against Idea and 5,301 against Vodafone.

TRAI’s Response

The regulator also received 732 and 2,913 complaints against state run telcos MTNL and BSNL respectively.

As per the TRAI Act,1997, the regulator is not responsible for the handling of individual consumer complaints.

It forwards them to concerned service providers for appropriate action.

Grievance Redressal Mechanism

All Telecom Service Providers (TSP) are required by TRAI to set up a two-tier complaint/ grievance redressal mechanism for handling consumer complaints.

Under the mechanism, a consumer can lodge service-related complaints at the complaint center of their TSPs.

If it is not satisfactorily resolved, the consumer can register an appeal with the appellate authority of the TSPs.

Fake News Debunked

In other news, a viral message is circulating online which says that “Jio, Aprtel or Vi” users are being offered free recharge for three months in celebration of “record number of vaccinations in the country”.

It further asks users to click a link to avail the rewards.

The Press Information Bureau’s fact check handle has confirmed the message to be false.


It has further advised those who come across the message to not “share or forward any of your personal information on the link of any such fake message”.
