UAE Introduces Four and a Half Day Working Week

This new change will be applicable to Federal government entities, and new working hours will also be applicable. The workdays Monday to Thursday will start at 7:30 am and end at 3:30 pm, and the working hours on Friday will be from 7:30 am – 12:00 pm.

As per reports, Friday sermons and prayers across the UAE will be held from 1:15 pm. Additionally, the government staff will be given the flexibility to make arrangements to work from home on Fridays and arrange their working hours on a flexi-time basis.

With this, UAE has become the first nation in the world to introduce a national working week that is shorter than the global five day working week.

The extended weekend has been introduced as a part of the UAE government’s efforts to encourage a work-life balance and improve social wellbeing. The government also plans to advance the economic competitiveness of the country.

Four Day Working Week in Japan, India?

Japan has recently introduced some new annual economic policy guidelines that include new recommendations which suggest that companies should implement the four day working week instead of the regular five.

The usually rigid and additional Japanese corporations have already been greatly modified due to the coronavirus pandemic.

In India too, there could soon be a 4-day work week!

The Ministry of Labour and Employment will soon come up with four new labour codes.

In an official statement to the media, Labour and Employment Secretary Apurva Chandra said, “See, there will be a maximum of 48 hours of work in a week. If someone works for 8 hours a day, then there will be 6 working days per week. If a company opts for 12-hour working per day for its employees, it means four-day working and three holidays”.

Chandra further added, discussions have been held with all concerned in this regard.
