Three-row SUV (codename- Y17)

Of these, the three-row SUV (codename- Y17) is kind of a surprise as there have been no hints about the car before this. Reports are that it will be based on a platform that is found on Ertiga and might replace the XL6. Additionally, this new SUV by MSIL will be pitted against Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, etc. It will also be the flagship model of MSIL after its launch.

Maruti Jimny

A long-wheelbase 5-door derivative of the Jimny off-roader is in the works and could arrive before the end of 2022. It will be based on the Sierra, have a 300mm longer wheelbase, and compete against Mahindra Thar and Force Gurkha. Coming in at 3.8 metres in length, it will likely get a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine capable of producing 103bhp of power and 138Nm of torque.  Its fuel efficiency could see an improvement with a mild hybrid system.

Vitara Brezza (codename- YTA)

This compact SUV by MSIL has already been sighted undisguised in India and will come with some huge changes to its exterior and interior design. The present gen model runs on a 1.5-litre K15B petrol engine and the same is expected to power the newer version, with a more powerful hybrid tech on offer. Additionally, the next-gen Vitara Brezza will reportedly be introduced as the next-gen Toyota Urban Cruiser.

Baleno-based crossover (codename- YTB)

Codenamed YTB, the sub-4 meter coupe-SUV crossover could take on the Tata Punch once it arrives in 2022. It will be based on the 5th generation Heartect platform and be positioned below the Brezza in terms of cost. The HEARTECT platform also underpins the Ignis, WagonR, S-Presso, XL6, and the Ertiga. As per the newest reports, the car will have a coupe-style design and is likely to be powered by a 1.5 L petrol engine also found in the Baleno hatchback.

New Mid-Size SUV

Maruti Suzuki and Toyota JV are working on an all-new midsize SUV likely to launch next year. It could be offered in 5 seater or 7 seater configurations. The 5-seater variant could take on the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq and the MG Astor. The 7 seater model will find competition in Hyundai Alcazar, Tata Safari and the MG Hector Plus. It is likely to run on a 1.5-litre petrol engine with a stronger hybrid system producing 104bhp and 138Nm of torque. This one is also expected to be rebadged and sold by Toyota under its own name.
