Amid rising cases of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, countries like the US and the UK have revamped their restrictions for travellers entering into their borders from foreign countries. All foreign passengers traveling to these countries will now have to carry their negative Covid-19 test report, or a proof certifying they have recovered from Covid-19.
About one-third of US states have now seen at least one case of the new Omicron variant, rising fears of the pandemic seeping in the country.
Travel Requirements for US
As mentioned above, the US put in place mandatory requirements for passengers traveling to the country, including those travelling from India. According to Indian officials, the new requirements would be compulsory on everyone above the age of two.
Passengers traveling to the US from any other country will have to carry with themselves a negative Covid-19 viral test result, generated no sooner than 24 hours before the date of travel, or one day prior to the flight’s departure.
In case the passenger is unable to generate a negative Covid-19 report, they will have to produce documentation validating their recovery from Covid-19 in the 90 days before boarding their flight.
The aforementioned travel protocol will come into effect from December 6; any country departing their flight(s) to the US at or after 10:31 AM IST on Dec 6.
Travel Requirements for UK
According to the UK government, all foreign travellers of 12 years of age or more will be needed to compulsorily carry a PCR test result or LFD Covid-19 test before they travel in the country.
The test is required to be taken two days prior to the date of travel, and is to be followed regardless of the passenger’s vaccination status. The country has underlined exempted some people, like children under the age of 12 years, and others from taking the test.
The new pre-departure testing requirements will come into effect in the UK from December 7 at 4 a.m, states a TOI report.
A total of 160 Omicron cases have been estimated in the UK, while 20 in the US.
