Australia: Travel Exemptions No Longer Needed

Visa holders who are fully vaccinated no longer have to seek travel exemption to enter Australia.

However, they will have to show a negative Covid PCR test taken within 3 days of departure.

The vaccine will also have to be approved or recognised by Australia’s Therapeutic Goods Administration. Covaxin has recently been included in the list.

Australia: Who Can Enter? From When?

Eligible visa holders include skilled and student cohorts, as well as humanitarian, working holidaymaker and provisional family visa holders.

These people will not have to undergo quarantine upon arrival in the country.

The new rules come into effect from December 1.

Australia: Region-Specific Rules

Those landing at Sydney and Melbourne will not have to seek travel exemptions.

Vaccinated travelers can enter New South Wales and Victoria without having to quarantine.

However, there are possibilities of pandemic restrictions being reimposed in the parts of the country with lower vaccination rates.

Prime Minister Scott Morrison hailed the move by saying that the country has achieved a major milestone in opening up to skilled workers and students.

Canada: Who Are Allowed Entry?

The Government of Canada will start allowing entry to certain groups of travellers only if they are fully vaccinated with one of the vaccines approved.

These travelers could be either:

  • Individuals travelling to reunite with family
  • International students above 18 years of age
  • Professional and amateur athletes
  • Those with a valid work permit, including temporary foreign workers
  • Essential service providers

Canada: Limited Exemptions

After January 15, 2022, unvaccinated or partially vaccinated foreigners will be allowed entry only if they qualify for limited exceptions.

This applies to specific groups such as;

  • Agricultural and food processing workers
  • Marine crew members
  • Entering on compassionate grounds
  • New permanent residents
  • Resettling refugees
  • Some children under the age of 18

These people will be subject to testing, quarantine, and other entry requirements.
