Pay Rs 20,000 Penalty For Using Mobile Phones While Driving In This Country! Use Of Mobile Completely Banned While Driving

The government of the UK has announced that the noose around the laws against the use of mobile phones while driving will now be tightened.

As of now, it is already illegal to text and call from behind the wheel with the exception of an emergency. And starting next year any use of mobile phones while driving will be illegal.

UK Tightens Noose Around Texting And Driving

In the next year, any use of mobile phones while driving will be considered illegal, and this includes using phones to take photos or videos, play games, or scroll through playlists and other content. 

As per reports, drivers will not be allowed to carry out these activities even while their vehicle isn’t moving. The Highway Code has also been revised by the government, which will include explanations that being stationary on the road, such as at traffic lights or in the middle of traffic jams also count as driving. 

Anybody who is found to be using their phones in any of the above circumstances will be fined £200 (US$269) and will get six penalty points on their license. This means that new drivers may get their licenses revoked.

Is There An Exception?

However, there is an exception – if you are using your phone to make payments at a card reader, say at a drive-through window or a road toll, you will be excused.

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said in a statement, “Too many deaths and injuries occur while mobile phones are being held. By making it easier to prosecute people illegally using their phone at the wheel, we are ensuring the law is brought into the 21st century while further protecting all road users.”

Here in India, if you are caught while speaking on the phone while driving, then you need to shell out Rs 5000 as a penalty. This was Rs 1000 earlier, and this means that the penalty has been increased by 5-times. There is no mention of texting while driving, and it seems that it would be the call of the traffic cop who catches you.

These rules were introduced when the Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill was cleared by the Cabinet.
