The world has witnessed enough tragedies in the last two years because of the tiny but might coronavirus. Governments throughout the world are getting exhausted while fighting the pandemic. And hence it is understandable if governments are interested in keeping another wave of the pandemic at bay. And hence to avoid any tragedy, the US government seems to have taken a major decision.

The USA allows Booster shots for all adults

Recently, the United States extended the authorization of Covid vaccine boosters to all people aged 18 and older, six months after the completion of their primary vaccination series. FDA took the decision based on enough evidence, from studies and real-world use of boosters, to back the expansion for both Pfizer and Moderna.

Moderna CEO Stephane Bancel announced that the emergency use authorization comes at a critical time as we enter the winter months and face increasing Covid-19 case counts and hospitalizations across the country.

According to the new decision, anyone 18 or older can choose either (Moderna or Pfizer) company’s booster six months after their last dose regardless of which vaccine they had first.

It’s a step taken to avoid increasing burden on the healthcare system in the country

According to the report, administration officials, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, continued making the case for using boosters more widely, noting that even milder infections in younger people can cause “long Covid” and other complications.

As per the latest data, more than 195 million Americans are fully vaccinated. Fully vaccinated people are defined as having received two doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines or the single-dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine. More than 30 million already have received a booster.

A US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention advisory panel is expected to meet soon to discuss whether to recommend the booster doses for the broader population.

After successful vaccinations of more than 100 crore Indians, India might be in a good position to take a decision on booster dose for its citizens. How the story of a booster dose in India will unfold, only time will tell.
