Tata Motors Surpasses Maruti Suzuki For First Time In Ten Years

Newest reports by ETIG have suggested that Tata Motors’ operating profit per car has soared by Rs. 45,810 in the second quarter, nearly double that of Maruti Suzuki, which has been the market leader.

This is the first time in a decade that Tata Motors has made more money per car than Maruti Suzuki.

The operating margins at  the Tata Motors PV division went up to 5.2%, which is a gain of 110 basis points in the second quarter of FY22. Whereas, the metric at Maruti Suzuki fell 50 basis points to 4.2%, which is a multi-quarter low.

As per reports, the operating profit of the Tata Motors PV business is equal to 45% of Maruti Suzuki in the September quarter. 

The volumes of cars sold by Tata are 22% of those by Maruti. 

Tata Motors Grows By 53%; Maruti Down By 1.2%

Tata motors has grown by 53% to 84,000 units in the September quarter, whereas, Maruti’s volumes contracted 1.2% in the same period due to shortage of parts. This affected the output by more than 116,000 units.

Recently, we reported that the 1,00,000th Altroz had been rolled off of the assembly line of the company’s plant in Pune. 

As per reports, 7550 units of the car have been sold as of March 21, and the average monthly sales in FY 2022 are 6000 units.

FY2020-21 witnessed the highest ever sales volume with a sales of 1,71,288 units, which is a 49.22 percent sales growth.

As a result of the stellar sale of CNG cars and registering a 41.6 percent increase on a Year-on-Year (YoY) basis, Maruti Suzuki with a sale of 148211 units also reported its highest-ever sales figure in FY2020-21.

The automaker, after discontinuing the diesel engines last year, shifted its focus onto CNG cars as an alternative.
