Adani Group Will Launch SuperApp To Fight Amazon, Flipkart, Tata; Invests In ClearTrip

The continuous battle between Amazon and Flipkart, continuously increasing competition of new entrants like JioMart and Meesho, the opposition of traditional retailers in the country, all these factors might make an investor wary of investing in e-commerce in India. But there are still some who are optimistic about this sector as this sector has not even reached more than 15% of citizens in the country. Similar optimism is being shown by the Indian conglomerate group of Adani group.

Adani group prepares to launch its own SuperApp

The Adani group is now preparing to launch a SuperApp in India. This SuperApp is supposed to be a mega app providing all the services on a single platform only. With the same objective in mind, the Adani Group is supposed in talks with Flipkart to pick up a significant minority stake of an undisclosed value in Cleartrip.

Flipkart had acquired Cleartrip in April this year in a deal estimated at around $40 million.

Through this investment, the Adani Group and the Flipkart Group will benefit from synergies that will deliver superior travel experiences to consumers as the travel industry in India sees a resurgence.

According to Flipkart, since the acquisition of this travel aggregator, Cleartrip has seen 10X growth in flight bookings. At the same time, trends observed by Adani airports indicate that the number of passengers at airports has increased, reaching close to pre-covid highs.

“We have a strongly developing relationship with Flipkart that spans multiple dimensions including data centers, fulfillment centers, and now air travel,” said Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group.

This investment will make synergies between both groups stronger

Flipkart highlighted that by collaborating with the Adani Group in areas such as travel-related products, loyalty programs, and other value-added services, Cleartrip aims to provide consumers with a seamless travel experience that will accelerate its growth.

Speaking on the current development, Kalyan Krishnamurthy, Chief Executive Officer, Flipkart Group, said, “At the Flipkart Group, we are focused on delivering experiences for consumers and providing opportunities to help them fulfill their aspirations. As travel picks up over the next few months, Cleartrip will continue to focus on providing easy and flexible travel experiences for its customers. We strive to strengthen our relationship with the Adani Group and will explore ways in which we can expand our offerings for consumers, leveraging their robust travel infrastructure in the country.”

How the relationship between Adani Group and Flipkart evolves, will be a story we look forward to.
