Facebook Renamed To Meta: Biggest Rebranding Exercise By Mark Zuckerberg; But Why?

Facebook has finalized a new name for the company – it will now be called “Meta.” Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg has announced the new change, the biggest rebranding ever!

The name reveals his future plan of creating a virtual universe of all human beings.

Let’s discuss the new name of Facebook, and the intention behind this!

Facebook Is Now Metaverse! Find Out Why

We recently reported that the rebranding would position Facebook’s social media app as a product under a parent company which already oversees groups like Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus and more.

It will also direct attention to Facebook’s focus on building a “metaverse”.

As per Zuckerberg, Facebook doesn’t fully encompass everything that the company is now, which is one of the reasons for the name change. He had said in July, “effectively transition from people seeing us as primarily being a social media company to being a metaverse company.”

Instagram, Whatsapp To Come Under Metaverse

The concept refers to an online world where people can use different devices to move and communicate in a virtual environment.

In other words, metaverse consists of virtual, interactive spaces in the digital world. It can be imagined as a virtual universe in which users will live, work and exercise. They can also create and explore with other people who aren’t in the same physical space.

He confirmed that the company plans to report on two operating segments: Family of Apps and Reality Labs.

All the social media apps, Facebook, Instagram, and Whatsapp will remain under the Meta umbrella.

It is not uncommon for companies in the silicon valley to change their names as they expand their services. One such example is Google; it established Alphabet Inc as a holding company in 2015 to expand beyond its search and advertising businesses.
