Launch Possibly In Next 6 Months

After the launch of its 4G service, its standing in the telecom market will improve.

He expressed hopes that the equipment would be made available soon after the network testing exercise concludes.

Upon successful completion of the PoC, BSNL can launch 4G within six months or by next financial year.

As a part of phase-I deployment, 50,000 out of 90,000 sites will be 4G-enabled.

BSNL Advantage Over Others

When BSNL 4G hits the market, Indian consumers will benefit from reduced congestion due to 4G networks of the three private operators- Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea, and Bharti Airtel.

While its speed may not be on par with the big three, it can have an advantage in terms of coverage throughout the country.

Private operators don’t have similar coverage due to reduced profitability.

Indigenous Technology

The importance of having an indigenously developed 4G network increased after curbs were placed on purchase of telecom equipment from China.

Government think tank NITI Aayog reiterated the same and suggested that the plans go ahead despite high costs.

Even as 5G technology deployment is around the corner for the rest of the world, 4G technology will maintain its importance in the Indian telecom sector.

4G Still Important Despite Upcoming 5G

This is because Indian operators are not running the latest versions of 4G in all areas and, hence, will continue updating the same.

It is also popular among Indian telecom equipment and software making companies.

These firms are focusing their efforts on further strengthening the 4G ecosystem to assist operators in increasing revenues and Average Revenue Per User (ARPUs).
