The SUV market in India is roaring like never before. The country is craving for more SUVs and automakers are making their best efforts to quench their thrust. Recently the country witnessed a grand opening for Mahindra XUV 700 and what a success it has been. Following the ongoing suit and excellent demand for its Seltos and Sonet, the South Korean carmaker Kia is coming up with a new 7 seater in India.
New Kia KY spotted testing in India
After Seltos and Sonet the next big launch from Kia will be a new 7-seater utility vehicle. The new car will be based on the Seltos platform. The car which has been codenamed as Kia KY, the new MPV has been spotted testing again in India.
According to reports, Kia Motors will follow Hyundai’s strategy of introducing a new 7-seater model on the existing platform. Hyundai Alcazar 7-seater SUV is based on the modified Creta’s platform. Kia has decided to use the same platform for the new model.
The new SUV will come with new-age features and looks
The model which was spotted reveals that the SUV will share the raked A-pillars, window line, and the front doors with the Seltos.
The biggest update will be made to the side and rear profile. It will have a taller roof for greater headroom for the third row of seats. It will also have extended front and rear overhangs with a more prominent rear quarter glass area for the third row.
The Kia KY is expected to receive a more prominent front look with a bolder Tiger Nose grille with mesh pattern, sharper headlamps with LED DRLs, LED fog lamps, bigger alloys, and newly styled tail-gate and LED tail-lights.
The car with a robust engine
The 7-seater model will likely share the engine options with the Alcazar, like a 1.5-litre turbo-diesel and a 2.0-litre petrol. While the 1.5 litre turbo diesel engine is good for 115PS of power and 250Nm of torque, the 2.0 litre petrol engine produces 159PS and 191Nm of torque. The car will come with options of a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic.
The new SUV might receive ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) with features like blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking and others. Other feature list includes a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, a digital instrument console, UVO connected car tech, front and rear parking sensors, 360 degree camera, ESC, hill start assist, VSM, TPMs, and many more.
Will the car attract similar customer attraction as its other family members? Only time will tell.
