Platform Ticket Price Increased By 400% In These Railway Stations; Rs 500 Penalty For Unmasked Passengers

The second wave of the ongoing pandemic caused by the tiny but mighty coronavirus was disastrous for all of us. It has made the common citizens and authorities fear the possibility of a third wave. To avoid the third wave, authorities are making all efforts to disincentive the possibilities of people gathering at a place. On similar lines, platform tickets across various railway stations in Mumbai.

Prices of Platform Tickets increased in Mumbai

The platform ticket rate has been increased at some railway stations in Mumbai. Prices of tickets have been increased from Rs 10 to Rs 50. The Railway Department has taken this decision to reduce the rush of people during the festive season. According to speculations of scientists, the third wave of Covid may be back. Hence as a preemptive measure for curbing the situation of the epidemic in Maharashtra, especially in Mumbai, it has been decided to increase the rate of platform tickets.

Hence from October 7, Platform ticket prices have been increased at stations like Thane, Kalyan, Panvel besides Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Dadar, and Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. All these stations come in the Mumbai division only. This rule will continue till further orders till the Railways gives any new instructions.

Price hike might be permanent

Earlier this year, the Railways had said that the hike in platform ticket prices is temporary and a precautionary measure to reduce the spread of COVID-19. The Railways had given Divisional Railway Managers (DRMs) full authority to increase the price of platform tickets, who use it in view of the congestion situation at stations in their respective states.

At the same time, the Railway Board has taken a major decision to curb the spreading of viruses at Railway Stations. Now, those who do not apply masks in railway stations and platforms will continue to be fined Rs 500. The period of the order issued for the prevention of the coronavirus epidemic has been extended till April next year. The direction to impose fines on people without wearing masks was in force till September, but now it has been extended for another six months, the railway order read.
