The future is electric. Governments and Corporates all over the world are making their priorities clear by stating their choice of electric vehicles over traditional vehicles. But pushing electric vehicles into the market is not a small task. You need to create a whole new ecosystem for it. Along with manufacturers, you need charging stations, repair and servicing centers, etc. Many companies like Tesla are taking lead in the manufacturing of these electric cars whereas many other companies like ABB are looking at a potentially huge market in the rest of the ecosystem.

ABB launches world’s fastest charger

The Swiss Engineering Company, ABB has launched the world’s fastest electric car charger. With this, the company is looking to plug into the booming demand for electric cars made by Tesla, Hyundai, and other automakers.

With this new Terra 360 modular charger as it is pushing ahead with its plans to float its electric vehicle (EV) charging business. The business holds a potential value of around $3 billion.

According to the company, the device can charge up to four vehicles at once, and can fully charge an electric car within 15 minutes, making it attractive to customers who are worried about charging times ranging over several hours.

“With governments around the world writing public policy that favors electric vehicles and charging networks to combat climate change, the demand for EV charging infrastructure, especially charging stations that are fast, convenient, and easy to operate, is higher than ever,” said Frank Muehlon, president of ABB’s E-mobility Division.

Global Electric Vehicle is rising exponentially

According to the International Energy Agency, globally the number of electric vehicles registered increased by 41% during 2020 to 3 million cars, despite the pandemic-related downturn in the total number of new cars sold last year,

The growth trend has accelerated in 2021, with electric car sales rising by 140% in the first three months of the year, the IEA said.

ABB’s Terra 360, which can deliver a charge of range 100 km (62 miles) in less than three minutes, will be available in Europe by the end of the year.

ABB has not yet declared a price range for the product. The company is aiming the product at business clients like fuelling stations, stores, and companies rather than the private garages of motorists.

Finally, the electric age is here and climate can be saved, right?
