700,000 Tata Employees Start Testing Tata’s New Super App: Cashback For Every Transaction, Book Hotel, Buy Grocery, Medicines & More

Over a month after the Ahmedabad-based conglomerate Adani Group’s youngest arm, Adani Digital Labs announced developing a ‘super app’ for over 400 million of its large consumer base across all verticals in India, Indian multinational conglomerate Tata Group has announced to officially unveil its SuperApp early next year.

The company states to have completed developing its superapp called the ‘Tata Digital’s SuperApp’ and announced to get it evaluated by its over 700,000 employees to ensure its efficiency, prior to the SuperApp’s official launch.

In a report by the ET, officials close to the matter have informed that a closed user base has already started beta testing the app and the same would be made accessible to all of Tata Group’s employees in a phased manner over the next few months.

Why Did the SuperApp’s Launch Take Time?

Officials privy to the matter have informed the newspaper daily that even though developed, the Tata Group has taken some time to decide the launch of its SuperApp, considering the improbability of any revised ecommerce guidelines as expected earlier.

Hence, as long as there were any clouds encircling around revision of consumer protection rules, the Indian conglomerate decided to hold on to the launch of its SuperApp.

All You Need to Know About Tata Group’s SuperApp

All of Tata Group’s different companies will be listed on the SuperApp and the company’s wide customer base will be able to access all of them at a single platform.

A super app is a digital platform that allows a user to access several services from one single app. An example of a super app is Paytm.

According to the aforementioned officials, some of the companies that have already signed up on the SuperApp, include Indian Hotels, Croma, BigBasket and 1mg.

The ecommerce firm Tata Cliq is yet to onboard itself on the app, as its business model may need to be altered to be compatible with the SuperApp.

A Tata Digital spokesperson said work on the app launch is currently in progress. “We are focused on ensuring its efficiency and efficacy”, they added.

The SuperApp is expected to have separate business verticals such as grocery, pharmaceuticals, education, finance, and beauty, which will each be headed by sector specialists.

Arvind Singhal, chairman of retail consultancy firm Technopak Advisors, said Tatas will have to pay attention to having product categories that complement each other on the app.

Furthermore, the ecommerce payments made on the super app translates into loyalty points (a rupee for each point), which can later be redeemed for other purchases made on any Tata brand. Most of the points made on small-ticket purchases are expected to be used on grocery spends, stated the officials.
